The Elle TENS Infrared Thermometer is a fast, non-contact thermometer that takes an accurate temperature reading in about one second, without touching the skin. It is built for real family life, with a dual forehead and ear design that works for newborns, babies, children and adults. When your little one is unsettled at 2am, you can check their temperature without waking them.
Backed by the team behind Elle TENS and the global Babycare TENS family, it is the simple, reliable temperature checker many Australian parents add alongside their labour and newborn essentials.
Why parents choose the Elle TENS infrared thermometer
- Non-contact forehead reading — hold it 2 to 3cm from the forehead and scan. No probe covers, no fuss, ideal for a sleeping baby.
- Fast 1-second results — a clear reading appears almost instantly on the backlit display.
- Dual forehead and ear modes — switch between non-contact forehead and in-ear measurement for the method you prefer.
- Adult and child settings — choose the right mode for accurate results for every member of the family.
- Fever alert — an on-screen and tone alert flags a high temperature at a glance.
- Object and room mode — check bath water, a bottle of milk or the nursery temperature.
- Hygienic and easy to clean — no contact with the skin in forehead mode means less to wipe down between uses.
How to use it
Forehead (non-contact): make sure the forehead is clean, dry and free of sweat or hair. Hold the sensor 2 to 3cm from the centre of the forehead, press scan, and read the result. Let the thermometer sit at room temperature for a few minutes first if it has been somewhere hot or cold.
Ear: switch to ear mode, gently place the sensor in the ear canal and press scan. Ear readings can be useful for older babies and children once forehead and ear results are compared.

What counts as a fever
In Australia, a normal body temperature for a baby or child sits between about 36.5°C and 38°C, and a reading of 38°C or above is generally considered a fever. A baby under 3 months with a temperature of 38°C or higher should be seen by a doctor straight away. For a full age-by-age guide, see what is a normal temperature for a baby, and when is it a fever.

Frequently asked questions
Is this thermometer suitable for newborns?
Yes. The non-contact forehead mode is gentle and quick, which makes it well suited to newborns and sleeping babies. For any baby under 3 months, always see a doctor promptly if the reading is 38°C or higher.
How accurate is a non-contact infrared thermometer?
Infrared thermometers give a fast, reliable reading when used correctly on a clean, dry forehead at the right distance. Avoid measuring straight after a bath, feeding or time outdoors, and let the device adjust to room temperature first.
Forehead or ear, which should I use?
Forehead is easiest for newborns and sleeping babies. Ear mode can be handy for older children. The key is to use the same method each time so you can compare readings.
Can adults use it too?
Yes. Switch to the adult setting and it works as a family thermometer for everyone in the household.
Do I need probe covers?
No. Forehead mode is fully non-contact, so there are no covers to buy or replace.
