Endometriosis, Pain and Support

March marks Endometriosis Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to a condition that affects so many women and yet is still widely misunderstood.

Endometriosis is more than “bad period pain.” For many women, it can mean years of chronic discomfort, fatigue, uncertainty, and navigating a healthcare journey that can feel long and complex.

At Elle TENS, we hear from many women who live with endometriosis and are looking for ways to support their bodies through painful flare-ups, particularly during their menstrual cycle. While every woman’s experience is different, tools like TENS therapy can offer gentle support alongside medical care.

Understanding Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, often affecting areas within the pelvis such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes or surrounding tissues.

Because this tissue responds to hormonal changes throughout the menstrual cycle, it can trigger inflammation, irritation, and pain. For some women, this pain is cyclical, arriving with their period, while for others it can appear at different times throughout the month.

Many women describe the pain of endometriosis as deeper and more complex than typical menstrual cramps. It can be felt in the pelvis, lower abdomen or lower back, and sometimes radiates into other areas of the body. For some, it can make everyday activities - work, movement, rest, and sleep - more challenging during certain times of the month.

Living with this kind of pain often means finding a combination of supports that help make it more manageable.

Using Elle TENS for Endometriosis Pain

Many women in the Elle TENS community tell us that they reach for their TENS machine not only during labour, but also during painful menstrual cycles and endometriosis flare-ups.

The electrode pads are typically placed on the lower abdomen, the lower back, or sometimes both, depending on where the pain is severest. Because the machine is small and portable, it can be worn discreetly under clothing while resting at home, working, or moving through daily activities.

For some women, using TENS becomes a small but helpful part of their monthly self-care routine. While it may not remove all sensation, many women find that it helps take the edge off intense cramping and gives them a greater sense of control during painful moments.

Having different forms of support available can make living with chronic pain feel less overwhelming. Small tools that help reduce discomfort, even slightly, can make daily life feel more manageable.

The Importance of Awareness and Support

Endometriosis Awareness Month is about more than information; it’s about recognising the experiences of the women living with this condition.

Pain that isn’t visible can sometimes feel isolating, but awareness helps create understanding. It reminds women that their symptoms are real, their experiences matter, and they deserve to be heard and supported.

At Elle TENS, we’re honoured to be part of a community of women who openly share their experiences and support one another. Whether someone is managing menstrual pain, navigating endometriosis, preparing for birth or recovering afterwards, every woman deserves tools that help her feel more comfortable in her body.
